Artifex Equipment, Inc. begins Zorbix production
Artifex Equipment, Inc., Petaluma, CA, this week launches full-scale production of its newest product, Zorbix, a patent-pending material that effectively dries wet books, library materials, and wet carpet. It also dehumidifies enclosed chambers such as containers, metal boxes and electronic cabinets.
Customers report that they are pleased with the product and eager to use it in current disaster recovery efforts.
The new hydrogel desiccant, sold singly or in cartons of 50, uses a chemical polyacrylate to:
- Absorb 50 times its weight in water
- Release water through evaporation
- Take on water and retain it under pressure - a key element in book water removal
In addition to drying wet materials, Zorbix can be used as a poultice or humidity blanket for relaxing brittle items because it has the ability to take on clean water that evaporates slowly and evenly, a key conservation use.
Zorbix was developed with the aid of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.
Zorbix uses environmentally friendly materials, and is 70% biodegradable.
