Vacme Press
The Vacme Press is a patent-pending innovation in pressing technology. Employing atmospheric
pressure by creating a vacuum in a pliable bag, three dimensional objects can be pressed for
forming or adhesion. By using a vacuum pump that creates up to 12 psi., the Vacme Press gives
practitioners the freedom to press books, boxes and damp or wet paper items within a portable,
lightweight chamber (bag). The Vacme Press system will accommodate work that is too large for
many screw presses, simplifying work on large, or multi-dimensional objects that need pressing.
Now binders, conservators, papermakers, printmakers and craftspeople can press objects that were
traditionally pressed in screw presses. The Vacme Press alleviates the need for improvisation on
large objects as bags of varying size are available and custom sizes can be manufactured to fit
your needs. Because bags and pump are portable and lightweight, the Vacme Press can be taken to a
remote location and set up quickly and easily. It makes working in tight quarters much easier
because once the item is pressed, it can be removed from the bench and stored while still under
pressure.
The lightweight pump is activated with a toggle switch and can be operated with one hand. The
bag's patent-pending closing mechanism requires only hand pressure to create a seal. A quick
disconnecting hose system allows the item to be removed from the pump yet stay under pressure.
Use of multiple bags in a production setting can free the bottleneck of having to wait for a
screw press to become available.
Because the vacuum bag is air- and water-tight, blotter paper must be used with damp items to
draw off the moisture. As the blotter is saturated, the bag can be opened, blotter replaced
with dry sheets and resealed for continued drying under pressure. In pressing boxes for adhesion,
it is advised that waste paper be used to absorb the adhesive moisture as it releases from the
box. Cleaning the bag is easy with a mild solvent such as alcohol. Bags can be reused for many
years without wearing out valve or seal.

The Vacme Press system consists of three components:
PUMP
- A diaphragm vacuum pump that creates 25 in./Hg. (12 psi) of pressure
- Hose and quick-disconnect fitting
- Vacuum gauge inset into cabinet
- Low noise output
- Requires no maintenance.
BAGS
- Three standard sizes: 12" x 18", 18" x 24", and 36" x 48"
- Bags weigh little and can be easily removed from the workbench when filled with a pressed item
- Bags are made of 20mil polished vinyl and are easy to clean with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol.
- Bags are Puncture resistant because of thickness as well as elasticity. These features ensure long, trouble-free life for the bags.
- Custom sized bags can be manufactured to your specifications.
